This is when the real action begins...
The breastfeeding. The around the clock newborn care. The teamwork between mom & dad.
But you know what else happens?
Your mind, body and spirit are going through a major transformation. Just like you prepared for pregnancy, it's time to prepare for postpartum!
Maybe you have read the baby books. Maybe you've even taken a newborn care or childbirth class. That's fantastic, but let me tell you something. These classes and books barely cover, (if at all!) what I believe to be THE most important part of your preparation. You know what that is...
Many pregnant mamas think that scheduling maternity leave and asking a relative to come stay with them for the first few weeks is all the postpartum planning required. It's not their fault. There is a solid lack of education in postpartum prep.
The truth is, having help is incredibly necessary, but it’s not the same thing as self-care. When all the opinions start rolling in about the baby and your recovery, it can actually be even more overwhelming. Googling while you're half asleep doesn't get your very far either.
What I'm trying to say is having support is amazing, but you still need SKILLS!
Want to know exactly why?
Because you get around FOURTEEN visits with a wellness provider while you're pregnant. And how many do you get in postpartum? A whopping ONE single check-up. When you look at it that way, it's insane right? Want to know what's more insane? That visit happens six weeks AFTER you've had the baby! Those first six weeks are considered your 'sacred window' in Ayurveda and possibly THE most important corridor into motherhood. What a loss of precious time.
I see this as a big problem. How about you?
I learned first-hand what a crummy job the American system does in supporting new moms when I was energetically depleted and suffered infections that necessitated antibiotics in the first couple of weeks postpartum. When I realized that I needed to slow down and focus on my healing and health, I was already elbows deep into early motherhood. It could have been made a lot easier.
But here’s the good news. Even though postpartum is hard work and you probably won't immediately see a wellness provider, YOU HAVE THE POWER to take matters into your own hands.
If you’re still with me and you’re shouting ‘Yes, girl yes!’, then I am SO excited to pass along some details you are not gonna want to miss!
A workshop designed to empower you with REAL LIFE tools and education so you know exactly how to care for your postpartum mind, body and soul!
"This class is very informative especially in today's fast-paced life, everyone wants their before baby lifestyle back...I realized how and why it is important to rest enough to recover. Also, Ayurvedic practices help a lot for mental health"
"Thanks to Anisha's compassionate guidance and coaching, I was able to effectively navigate the turbulent postpartum period with grace and confidence. I highly recommend her to any future mother who is looking to incorporate Ayurvedic wisdom into their modern lifestyle and craft a realistic postpartum plan to achieve lasting health and wellness."
As a second time mom, I wanted to do things differently in my postpartum period and intentionally focus on rest, healing and bonding guided by Ayurvedic practice. Anisha made these ancient practices approachable for the modern mom!"
let me wait until after I pop to see if I REALLY need support. I can just reach out later, right?
Well, I get it. Normally, that would make a lot of sense but here's what I want you to know...
NOW is the time to get prepped so that you can hit the ground running later. Well, no running. Not for a while. More like RESTING. You know what I mean!
Having the groundwork ready for your own self-care before the baby arrives is like filling up the gas tank in your car before the road trip. If you take a wrong turn or take a few extra stops, you will have to pivot your plan, but you won't feel stressed about getting stranded because you know you have what you need to get you there! Similarly, when you take charge of prepping for the things you CAN control in postpartum, you create space to embrace the twists and turns without feeling overwhelmed.
And there will be lots of twists and turns. That is after all the journey of parenthood. You and baby will learn together. But how beautiful to be able to do that with calm, patience and ease?
What I know as a mindful mom of 3 kiddos doing this parenting gig for 12 years is that self-care leads to a more grounded me. I can then pour from a place of overflow instead of depletion. That is the kind of energy my family deserves from me. That is what helps me show up as the mom I continue to want to be!
How beautiful to be able to do this from day 1?
And there is a rise in how many women develop perinatal mood disorders like postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety. It breaks my heart to hear stories from mothers that were robbed of joy during this delicate time. It's my honor to teach you ways to cope with the stressors that come with early motherhood but more importantly, take the best care of yourself in mind, body and soul!
I want you to enjoy your MommyMoon as best as possible. You deserve that.
As mothers, WE are the home. From the moment that miracle begins to grow inside of us to every single day thereafter. Let’s always take care of home.
